Jands have added MIDI Show Control support which is great for QLab users or those who want to trigger Vista from a wider Show Control system.
Currently they don't seem in a hurry to add MIDI Note support, which I can't really blame them.
& I have never had to provide my credit card number before my tech support call is answered. It is clear that the reason Jands doesn't charge a yearly subscription fee or use one of the above options is that their business model uses Hardware to subsidize the Software dev. Obviously providing MIDI Note triggers will impact that model. The economics of the difference between the price of an S3 from Jands vrs 2x Beheringer BCF2000 and a Korg nanoPAD2, nanoKONTROL2 makes that clear. So if we assume Jands lose money on MIDI Note Triggers, Maybe they could introduce split pricing and charge a yearly subscription for MIDI triggers. Question So how much would you be willing to pay? |

I don't fully understand how you see that they subsidize the costs with hardware; when you purchase a $6,000 wing from most manufactures' it opens up the software (martin, chamsys) and when you buy the similar priced wing from Jands you are still on the hook for a $2,000 dongle... I would then say they are making money of s/w alone. While I see the concept of not allowing things such as mpc 40s and keyboards used, I think it limits the user base. I know many installs and operators that want to use other surfaces while still purchasing the big daddy desks, etc. As a newbie to the vista world my view is that we need more users using the products and contributing into the pool. And as with most things I think you may see one or two people using a small keypad and laptop, but most of your show environments want to use the actual desk with the ports that click and can take some abuse. Just me thoughts.... Robb |

Quote: So if we assume Jands lose money on MIDI Note Triggers I'm not sure it is reality: Many, many costumers don't want to buy Vista console and prefer to buy a GMA because they need midi note for there show... ( It is the same for TV Show, TV game, etc... ) So I think: Jands loses money because they don't want to add MIDI Note support. MIDI Note support is a good commercial point for selling consoles, Vista L5 + MIDI Note it will be perfect equipment. >>> Add MIDI Note and we will sale many L5 in the world !!!! _________________ jm.jolivet@mac.com http://web.mac.com/jm.jolivet/jm.jolivet_/Accueil.html |

Hey Everyone!
You'll be happy to know, midi note support has been asked for quite extensively across the globe, and it's on the list of things to be included in a future build. We do not have any release dates as of yet, but rest assured it will be in there in the future. Cheers, Darryl Ross AC Lighting Inc. |
