Post Dimmer/DMX Check method
I often use the multi-patch feature for static lights. That is Fixture 1 has five entities being DMX 001, 005, 009, etc.

Once patched is there a method to call up only DMX 005, for example, to see just that single unit without the other guys in the multi-patch?
Also, is there a way to proportionally patch within a Multi-Patch fixture? That is have 001 read full at 100% but have 005 read full when the dimmer is a 75% for example.

Thank You,
weston

not if you multipatch the fixtures

the whole idea of multipatching is that all the fixtures patched in have the same value and are identical

if you want individual control of fixtures, patch them that way :)

If they are multipatched no ,cause if you say fixture 5 at full, the result will be that all the fixtures that you have multipatched ,and in this case all the fixtures will have the same fixture number (5) will come up to full.
so to do want you want "recall them indipendently" you have to patch them as 5 different dimmer channels .
Hope helps!

After thinking about this a bit I do think that having a dimmer check function would be very helpful. All too often I am in a theater and someone mentions doing a dimmer check. There isn't any graceful way of driving single DMX values to full while they are patched. I would certainly to add that to the list for future additions. The ideal place for that in my opinion would be in the patch screen. I think that is a must have for anyone working in a theater that has come from pretty much any other conventional board.

In short: Please add a DMX/Dimmer Check feature!

I need something that increments by DMX address not by the channel and something that will work on unpatched addresses.
For example:
I am going into a theater and using the house FOH postions. I already have a show that is patched with 4 FOH channels but I need to find what fixtures I want to use in the house rig. As it stands now I will have to take one of those FOH channels and patch it to somewhere in the house DMX universe that is close. Then I have to keep dragging that channel in the patch until I find what I want. What I would like is a "dummy" channel at full that could be patched and bumped one DMX address by using the arrow keys or something of that sort. Then I can flash through the DMX universe one address at a time until I find the fixtures that I want without patching and unpatching my show. It also would allow me to do a "heads up" dimmer check.

Highlight is the right track but it will only work on patched channels. I don't want to patch dozens of channels to find the 4 that I am looking for.

Does that help explain it?

It sounds like you want a way to an advanced highlight for what ever dmx channel you select. So say you go to the patch window, tap on DMX channel 1, and enven though there is nothing patched there, the console outputs 255 on channel 1. Then you can select a different channel and do the same thing, or even press the next button and now channel 2 is at 255. Then you can just go through the entire universe by pressing next.

Right now you can't click on a dmx channel if nothing is patched there. But if you could select a channel or even a range of channels that would be killer.

Exactly!

The old Express and Expression lines of ETC consoles had this and we used it alot. It is something so simple but so handy when flashing through a rig.

I've always found it easy enough to have the Super Playback in IPCG "I/POS" mode with the Patch window open.
Once I get the the combo of Intensity Full, Home, Next Fixture buttons right it is easy to fly through a check. It doesn't help to find unpatched channels.

But i don't think i have ever done a show with more than 48 dimmer channels which makes me completely unqualified to comment on this topic, so i apologize to all the theater peeps in advance.

What would be cool is to have a place holder representing multi-channel dimmer packs. For instance, if you have a 6 channel strip, you could drop the holder in and it would represent those six channels so you know where your dimmers are addressed. Then you could drop the actually fixtures in for the ones you want to use and patch in.

Yeah, for 95% of my shows I only have a 48 channel rack. That other 5% with in house dimmers takes as much time to figure out as the entire 95% combined. I know this seems like such a simple idea that really only is suited to dimmers but think of it like a hand held dmx tester. You could use it to test all sorts of things without having to actually patch them and then delete them.
